Questions asked on August 21st – Q & A

On August 21st, in lieu of a sermon, pastor John and pastor Theresa tried to answer your theological questions. Some of the questions were tough and provocative. It was a wonderful time of engaging in conversation about questions that many wonder about. Here are some of the questions that were asked.

  • The Lord’s Prayer says, “Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.” Does this mean we must forgive others to be forgiven?
  • Will we ever repair the church bells? We miss them!
  • Where is God in protecting children from atrocities?
  • How would Jesus want us to respond to discrimination against others that we witness?
  • Is Jesus the only way? How do we dialogue with Muslims, Hindis, Jew, etc.? Is there universal salvation?
  • Why does God allow bad things to happen? Cancer, wars, etc.
  • I realize God is neither gender, but how do you decide to something neutral?
  • What does the phrase “walking with Jesus” mean?
  • Why is the church so tall?
  • I want ice cream. Please?
  • Have you ever witnessed an actual miracle that you associate with God?
  • Matt 16.24-25 says, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Is there a difference between loving Jesus and truly following him? What does it mean to truly be a disciple?
  • Are there broad differences between Presbyterians and other Reformed Protestant religions?
  • Many in war and politics say, “God is on our side.” Whose side is God on?”
  • What is your opinion how the prophesy of Revelation is playing out in today’s current times?
